Netball Victoria’s Inclusive Community of the Year 2019

Netball Victoria’s Inclusive Community Finalist 2022

Founded in March 2018 our All Abilities Netball Program provides an opportunity for everyone in our diverse community to learn how to play netball, form social connections and be part of the inclusive sporting community at Bayside. No previous experience is required to join the All Abilities Netball Program and it is open to all ages and all genders.

Our Programs run over Semester 1 and Semester 2 of the school year ( excluding public and school holidays)

About the Program

Our Junior program runs over the school terms on Monday evenings. The Primary aged program from 4.15-5pm, and the Secondary aged program from 5-6pm.

We also run focused game-play sessions for our aspiring and talented Tournament and Championship players in our Squad from 6pm – 6.45.

Our Senior program runs in conjunction with a Local Adult Education Program, Bayley House. The Senior Program runs on Fridays from 10-11am.

Our Junior players are supported on court by their ‘Buddies’ (coaches). The Buddy Program connects our All Abilities players with other netballers from within the  Netball Association, providing support both on and off the court. We see the Buddy Program as an opportunity for all our players, sharing a connection, fun and enthusiasm for a game they all love. The Buddy Program is a unique feature of our BDNA All Abilities Program and we know that our Buddies are outstanding young leaders of the future.

To participate in the term long program players must have a valid Netball Victoria Membership and register via Netball Connect . The cost is $220 per semester per player with a one-off Netball Victoria Annual Membership fee for insurance purposes of $60.00 ( once you have paid this $60 you will not be charged again).

All Abilities History

Kris Pierce and Emily Higgins are both local parents of children with disabilities who were frustrated with the lack of inclusive sporting opportunities they were faced with. They had the vision to build a program and develop something special, and what they have achieved in such a short time at Sandringham & District Netball Association was, and continues to be, extraordinary. Amelia Matlock runs the Senior Program with participants from Bayley House and has built a secure, fun environment for the senior group.

On the back of the All Abilities Program, the progra won the 2019 Netball Victoria Inclusive Netball Community of the Year Award, see above to watch the inspiring video about the program. In 2019, we also took a team to the Victorian State Titles. It was a young team who had built solid foundational skills. The team were consistent across the day and were successful in winning the All Abilities Section.

Every year, something new evolves with both the Junior and Senior Programs, challenging and encouraging players, coaches, families and volunteers to set and achieve new goals, within and outside the Program.
We are so proud of our All Abilities Netball Program and thoroughly enjoy watching all our players develop and grow from strength to strength each year. We will work hard to ensure we provide all the support required for its continued growth and success, and are genuinely excited to see what the future holds for everyone involved.
